My Teaching Philosophy

My responsibility as a teacher is to set you up for success, to present new information in a way that makes learning possible and to provide support in a safe and fun atmosphere. If at any time, you have questions, comments or concerns, please contact me right away!

Your responsibility as a learner is to set yourself up for success. This means arrive on time and well prepared, in a learning frame of mind. Prepare your equipment, truck, trailer the day before, feed yourself and your horse well, get a good night's sleep.

You signed up for lessons with me, because you are committed to a positive and progressive relationship with your horse. I want to thank you for this! Learning can be uncomfortable... We only learn if we are out of our comfort zone and I am here to support you. If you have any confidence issues, I understand what it is like. I can help you to help yourself and regain your confidence...

The 7 Keys to Success are: Attitude, Knowledge, Tools, Techniques, Time, Imagination and Support. We both need the right attitude, I deliver the knowledge and techniques and I support you in your quest for becoming a Horse(wo)man. You set yourself up for success by bringing the right tools and allocating time to progress. Pat Parelli designed our Parelli equipment with a lot of insight. The halter is soft and light, so that you can be soft and light, and it is thin, so we can help your horse to learn how to yield to pressure. The lead rope has the correct weight and feel and stops wiggling when you do, to deliver the correct release. The snap is designed for safety. The carrotstick has the right length to turn your tall body into a long one (like your horse's body) and is perfectly balanced. The correct equipment will make success easy. Our starter set is now priced at a very affordable $59! You can order Parelli equipment by clicking here. I have a couple equipment sets available for use during my lessons, but please keep in mind that I cannot loan those out.

What else to bring: Depending on the length of the lesson, bring a haynet and bucket for your horse, snacks and drinks, a chair, a notebook and pen and dress weather appropriately.

Expect to have fun, learn a lot and make new friends!

2Star Junior Instructor
Testimonial from Annick Cersonsky: Felicitation Petra, I am so proud of you. You are such great teacher. You teach your student at the level they are, not where you think they should be. You are respectful and know how to motivate people. You push hard but you respect your student's limits. Way to go!
